Chaos erupted in Ghana’s Parliament on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, after Minority MPs abandoned their seats and moved to the centre of the chamber, sparking heated scenes during proceedings.
The disruption followed intense disagreement over the declaration of the Kpandai parliamentary seat as vacant— a decision the Minority insists is illegal and improperly handled.
Earlier, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga had criticised what he called the Minority’s persistent, coordinated protests, saying he was unsurprised by their efforts to stall parliamentary work. The Bawku Central MP accused them of using noise and disorder to block the Speaker from issuing rulings on the matter.
Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh fired back, cautioning that government business would face continuous setbacks until the Kpandai issue is resolved.
Minutes later, tensions boiled over.
As the Speaker attempted to continue proceedings, Minority MPs intensified their demonstration, leaving their seats, moving to the chamber’s centre, and chanting in defiance.
Their action quickly triggered a chaotic confrontation, with MPs from both sides surging toward the middle of the floor.
