The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged former Zebilla MP Cletus Avoka to exercise caution in his public statements regarding the situation in Bawku, warning that careless remarks could jeopardize ongoing peace efforts.
Addressing the matter on Tuesday, December 16, during the presentation of the Bawku Mediation Committee’s report to President John Dramani Mahama, the Asantehene emphasized the importance of responsible and measured communication as reconciliation continues. He stressed that the current climate requires sensitivity, noting that comments with the potential to inflame emotions or deepen divisions hinder the fragile process of uniting the communities.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II further highlighted that while the legal framework clearly acknowledges the authority of the Bawku Naba, the moment calls for restraint rather than statements that could provoke renewed tension. He explained that attention must now focus on healing, fostering mutual respect, and rebuilding trust among the affected communities.
The Asantehene encouraged all parties involved to prioritize dialogue, cooperation, and national unity, emphasizing that lasting peace can only be achieved through patience and respect for the mediation process.
Following the report’s submission to the President, Otumfuo expressed confidence that strict adherence to the committee’s recommendations would pave the way for enduring stability and calm in Bawku and its surrounding areas.
