Riyad Mahrez inspired Algeria to a commanding 3-0 victory over Somalia, securing their place as the fourth African team to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Former Manchester City and Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez played a key role in Algeria’s dominant display, setting up Mohamed Amoura’s early strike before scoring a superb half-volley in the 19th minute.

Wearing the captain’s armband, Mahrez dazzled his opponent before providing another assist for Amoura’s second goal just after the break. Both players were later substituted after sealing the victory.

Youcef Belaili nearly extended the advantage, and when the final whistle blew, the home crowd in Oran erupted in celebration.

With the win, the Desert Foxes have secured the top spot in Group G with a game remaining and confirmed their return to the World Cup for the first time since 2014, when they were eliminated by eventual champions Germany in the round of 16.

Although Somalia were listed as the home team, the match was held in Oran, Algeria, due to the absence of an international-standard stadium in their own country.
